Coronavirus  – latest updates and advice

We believe, now more than ever, that being active, healthy and mindful are key to wellbeing and happiness.

We’ve introduced some temporary service changes to keep you (and us) safe. These changes have been adopted by the whole leisure sector and reflect the necessary measures we have taken to enable our customers to keep active at this time.

So while some of these changes may feel a bit restrictive, we ask you to work with us, support us and to play your part in helping us get back to normal service – we are here for you and we want everyone to be able to access great value facilities and help keep our centres safe, fun and friendly.

Please take a few minutes to read through what you need to know before you visit.

We’ve made some essential changes to comply with Government guidance

  • Our team has been trained on COVID-19 protection measures and we have implemented industry approved procedures to help keep everyone safe and ensure our centres remain open.
  • We’ve carried out risk assessments for all activities which are regularly reviewed.
  • Hand sanitiser is available at key locations throughout the centres. Hygiene stations are also in all high-touch point areas.
  • Activity numbers are temporarily reduced to enable social distancing.
  • We’ve introduced screens in some areas and are strongly recommending that, unless exempt in line with Government guidance, employees and customers wear face coverings when in indoor public / communal areas (unless exempt or participating in an activity).
  • Signage is in place to encourage social distancing, show routes around the centre, and tell you which areas are temporarily closed.
  • We’ve moved some gym equipment to enable improve social distancing. We’ve also removed ‘high-contact’ loose equipment such as straps, mats and ropes to simplify cleaning and ensure your safety. Sorry no spotting in the gym at this time.
  • We’ve relocated some classes to larger studios and sports halls to increase capacity while ensuring social distancing measures. Some class sizes have also been reduced. We’ve built in an extra 10 mins cleaning time between classes all equipment and staggered class start times to avoid congestion.
  • We’ve increased and enhanced the frequency of our cleaning regimes

How you can help us get back to normal service:

  • Please DO NOT come to the centre if you are feeling unwell or have symptoms of COVID-19.
  • Book activities in advance. You will not be able to walk into the centre without a booking.
  • Please keep your distance – signage and floor markings are in place to help you.
  • Before and after your activity, avoid congregating with others in communal areas (such as corridors, reception areas, changing rooms).
  • Arrive on time for your session. Register your attendance and please be patient if you need to queue for a kiosk to collect your class ticket or tap into the gym. NHS Track and Trace QR codes are displayed in centre if you’re using the app.
  • Wipe down equipment before and after use using the sanitisation wipes provided.
  • Bring your own water bottle and mat for exercise classes. You can bring a sweat towel for personal use.
  • Regularly wash and/or sanitise your hands before and after using equipment.
  • Please be kind. Respect others including our team who are working hard to ensure all the rules and regulations are followed that will allow us to remain open.
  • If you are coming into the centre, please wear a face covering when
    • in public / communal areas
    • in cafés (unless seated to eat and drink)
    • spectating an indoor activity such as swimming, gymnastics and trampoline lessons.

You are not required to wear a face covering if you are:

    • Taking part in a fitness activity; for example, a gym session, swim, sport or fitness class
    • Spectating outdoors
    • Or if you fall into any other group exempted by Government advice; such as children under 11 or if you have a medical condition.

Booking activities

A booking system is in place for classes, gym and pool sessions to help us manage the number of customers at any one time.

Activities, availability and booking details will be available on our BH Live Active mobile app and online. Bookings are available up to 7 days in advance for members and up to 5 days in advance if you pay as you go.

If you have a question please ask us, where possible, in centre when we reopen. You may also find the answers you need in our help centre.

If you do send us a message via the website or social media, please bear with us as we will respond to everyone – but it may take us a little longer than usual.
