Fitness tips to kick start your training

Kick start your training with these helpful fitness tips

Whether you are a fitness pro or just getting started, below are some helpful fitness tips to get you back on track and bossing your workouts

1. Pre-plan your workouts

Planning your workouts for the week will ensure that you can hit the gym, pool or studio full of confidence. It’s basic stuff, but if you can plan out your workouts in your diary or calendar, you will be less likely to skip your training days. If you’re a gym goer, make an effort to plan your sessions or splits for the week.  The pool more your thing? Set yourself a certain distance or time limit to complete a certain amount of lengths. Prefer working out in a group? Then plan and book onto your favourite group fitness classes ahead of time. Planning ahead is one of the best ways to stay on track with your fitness goals.

2. Pack the night before

If you have an early workout session planned, layout your kit the night before so you can literally roll out of bed, dress, pick up your bag and go. Getting your fitness kit ready reduces the chances of those little ‘sleep gremlins’ tempting you to stay in bed and miss your workout. It also subconsciously prepares you for the next day so you can stay accountable for your workouts knowing you are fully prepared for the day ahead.

3. Turn up early

If you plan to attend one of our amazing group fitness classes, then make sure you get there early with plenty of time. This gives you the chance to chat with one of our friendly instructors prior to the class starting. They can explain what to expect from the class and talk you through all the available options. It will also give you the opportunity to locate our changing rooms, set up any equipment you might need and familiarise yourself with our studios.

4. Ask for help

Here at BH Live Active we’re a team. That includes all of our staff, personal trainers, fitness instructors, swimming teachers and of course you, our members. If you need help with anything at all then please ask; there’s no such thing as a silly question. Don’t know how to use a piece of kit in the gym? Ask one of our fitness instructors and they will show you how to use it and explain all the benefits. Can’t find the studio? Ask a member of our customer service team who will gladly point you in the right direction. Just fancy a chat? Grab any one of us, we’re a sociable bunch who love a natter and a coffee.

5. Consistency is key

On average it takes 66 days to form a habit. If you stay consistent with your training, eventually it will become a part of your daily life. Try plotting in your diary or calendar days that you know you can consistently stay active on. This will help you to keep your training days consistent and hold you accountable for your workouts during the week. It’s not always an easy process, some days will be tougher than others and there’ll be days when you want to give up altogether. It’s during these times that you need to remember your ‘why’. Why are you doing this? To complete your first 10K? To lead a healthier lifestyle? Whatever your reason, know that it takes 66 days to form a healthy habit. Half the battle is getting started so if you haven’t started yet get in touch and let us help you.

6. Bring a buddy

Working out alone is great for some. For others not so much. Exercising with a buddy is a great way to stay motivated, have fun and you’ll be less likely to skip a workout. If you don’t have a workout buddy just yet, then don’t fret. Be brave, come along to one our group fitness classes and make new friends or chat to one of our personal trainers who can design a bespoke training programme and help you along the way. If you are already a member, take advantage of our ‘refer a friend’ scheme. If your friend signs up to one of our memberships then you’ll both receive one month free! 7. Food prep

When it comes to staying on track food prep is key. Preparing your meals the day before not only reduces the risk of snacking on unhealthy treats, but it also allows you to keep track of your food intake. You’ll be less likely to make unhealthy choices as you will have everything you need to see you through the day. Plus in the long run it will save you time and money. Win win.
