cycling against hip pain (CHAIN)

If you’re feeling a little less mobile and getting pain in your joints, you may find a little pedal power works a treat. A pioneering programme in Bournemouth recently proved a beneficial connection between regular cycling activity and reduced hip pain and the need for surgery.

Cycling Against Hip Pain (CHAIN) showed how exercise can improve mobility, reduce pain and make life easier for people suffering with hip arthritis. We were one of six partners to lead and run the six-week programme. The results were amazing. Many who took part reported more flexibility, less pain, less dependence on pain killers, improved sleep, feeling fitter and stronger, and better able to carry out daily routine. They also became more confident, had a greater sense of wellbeing, made important lifestyle changes and learned how to make exercise an enjoyable habit.

Why not give it a try? Our health and wellbeing team has first-hand experience of CHAIN and are the best people to help you find the pace and activity that works for you.
